Grounding in Our Sacred Mother: A Land Based Healing Immersion with Madelyn Moyer
“The land knows you, even when you are lost.”- Robin Wall Kimmerer
Western society characterizes humans as separate and above the natural world. But we are not only deeply dependent and connected to Earth, we are as much a part of Earth as the roaring oceans, majestic mountains and churning molten core.
Today more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. While the city feeds our spirits in many ways, as we have gotten further from the land we have experienced a great loss. Yet for many of us our distance from the land is not just physical, but complicated by a history of trauma based in colonization, white supremacy, capitalism, assimilation and displacement. In this workshop we will take steps toward rebuilding relationship with the land we live on, the lands of our upbringing and our ancestral lands using meditation, plant medicine, memory, observation and storytelling.
Madelyn (she/they) is a spiritual herbalist, educator, sister, auntie, lover of Earth and singer of songs. In November 2017 she completed her apprenticeship in spiritual herbalism with Karen Rose at Sacred Vibes Apothecary and is now doing herbal consultations and teaching workshops. She believes plants are our greatest allies, teachers and caretakers. Madelyn has been teaching hands-on science to young people in classrooms, after-school programs and vegetable gardens for the past 10 years. She is on the advisory board of the Earth Ethics Institute, an organization at Miami Dade College that infuses Earth Literacy into the curriculum through training faculty, staff and students. Madelyn identifies as queer and is committed to an anti-racist spirituality based in relationship with land and ancestors.
