1. Scholarship worth $1000 for Chestnut Herb School

Chestnut School Online Herbal Immersion Program (1,000 hours) Just as locally grown food is key to long-term sustainability, locally grown herbs are equally as important. That’s why we focus on growing your own herbs, along with the many ways you can use medicinal and edible weeds. This program lays out a clear path for your herbal journey. It begins with building healthy soil and germinating seeds, extends into growing and harvesting each herb, and culminates with creating a treasure trove of herbal allies.

Our Online Herbal Immersion Program is a vibrant multi-media online course, infused with a plant-centered approach to herbal medicine. In a nutshell, it has two equal and integrated parts: How to grow medicinal plants, and how to bring their medicine into your daily life.

The program features 119 videos, 150+ lessons, and a gorgeous 1,440+ page printable course manual, clearly organized into 17 modules of herb-packed instruction.

You’ll dive deep into herbal botany:

foraging and wild-harvesting ∙ edible flowers ∙ permaculture and organic gardening ∙ herbal materia medica ∙ creating your dream garden ∙ medicinal plant propagation ∙ useful garden weeds ∙ herbal medicine making ∙ fire ciders ∙ herbal cocktails and mocktails medicinal mushrooms ∙ herbal body care ∙ how to make an herbal livelihood ∙ and much, much more!

At the conclusion of the course, you’ll be herb-fluent in the cultivation practices, healing properties, and medicinal preparations for a wealth of healing plants. The Immersion includes all the content from our Medicine Making Course and the Foraging Course, plus much more!

About

Our Mission

The NYC Spiritual Herbalism Conference is an intersectional meeting place of the different practices and practitioners of herbalism. While uniquely addressing the challenges, knowledges, and collaborations experienced and cultivated in an urban environment, we, with reverence, centralize the intelligences of Indigenous, LGBTQI, POC, and immigrant communities from which we are rooted.

This year's Theme

The Structure of Dreams

This year’s Sacred Vibes' 3rd Annual Spiritual Herbalism Conference uplifts The Structure of Dreams! Workshops this year will call us all into the activation of dreaming toward practical strategies for liberation and abolition. Teachers will consider Indigenous and Ancestral technologies to return to, to prepare us with magic, inspiration, knowledge, and tangible skills to co-create structures of collectivity, equity, and abundance. This year, virtual technologies will serve as a space for us to challenge what it can mean to mobilize, connect, and find rootedness within the context of a global pandemic.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Karen M. Rose

DSC_2517.jpg

Trained in Eastern and Western Herbal Medicine, Master Herbalist, Karen M. Rose has dedicated her life’s work to empowering individuals to reconnect to their own ancestral traditions. Over the past 20 years, she has created several outlets to offer her teachings and healing modalities to women, Black, people of color, and LGBTQX communities. The opening of the Brooklyn-based, Sacred Vibes Apothecary in 2002, was merely the beginning. Karen has now expanded her enterprise, opening Sacred Botanica in 2020, a new location in Brooklyn, to make healing more accessible to the greater community.

Karen’s inspiration for this work began as a child in her native home of Guyana, where she was exposed to how African, Caribbean, and Latin American traditions profoundly influenced plant medicine and community healing. The legacy of these lands is the foundation of Karen’s core values and spiritual practices.

Regarded as a Spiritual Herbalist, Karen is revered for being the first to teach plant medicine from a place deeply rooted in ancestral healing and spiritual consciousness. Offering guidance to those on the path to finding the truth, she has trained over 400 herbalists through her Spiritual Herbalism Apprenticeship program as an act to reclaim their own health and offer to heal to their own communities.

Karen’s accomplishments include several in-house projects such as the Sacred Vibes’ Annual NYC Spiritual Herbalism Conference, the 2019 Herbal Almanac, the Global Virtual Apprenticeship Program, the Spiritual Herbalism Apprenticeship Community, and the free herbal Community Summer workshops. Karen has been featured in the New York Times, Black Enterprise, Refinery29 and Allure Magazine, Organic Life Magazine, Elle.com and has partnered with brands like BET, and Squarespace.

Karen currently resides in New York City with her three children, grandson, parents, and sisters. Her family is valued foremost and all of her work is supported by this firm foundation.
